Best Time Visiting the Outer Banks
The Outer Banks of North Carolina have a special place in my memory because of the great food, amazing views and all around relaxing vibe. The Outer Banks consist of several towns, Duck, Kitty Hawk and Nags Head are all beautiful beach towns, but I visited Corolla in July of 2021 and till this day I look back at pictures and have fond memories.
Corolla is an upscale beach community that has reserved that small beach town vibe and is less commercial compared to other popular beach destinations. The vibe is very relaxed and informal, you won’t find main roads saturated with large big box super stores and chain restaurants, instead you’ll find local mom and pop places to eat and family owned stores.
When I visited Corolla it was the middle of summer, peak vacation season yet it wasn’t overcrowded and overly touristy. Below are some things we did in Corolla:
4x4 Beach
12 miles of pristine beaches that are perfect for 4WD vehicles to drive up and down the coastline, we found a spot and spent the day enjoying the sun and waves.
If you visit the 4x4 beach in Corolla keep an eye out for wild Spanish Mustangs, these horses are known to roam this beach!
Watch the Sunrise
Corolla offers some of the best sunrises in the country in my opinion so waking up early to catch one is definitely worth it. Secluded beaches, gentle waves and beautiful homes along the coastline, I still look back at these pictures every now and then to take me back.
Stroll the Village and Parks
Corolla’s village maintains its historic charm despite the modernization of becoming a vacation hot spot, it’s lined with unpaved sandy streets and picturesque family owned shops offering a very quaint and simple vibe. We rode our bikes through the village and just wandered the nearby area and we felt as if we traveled back in time where life was more laid back and simple!
Visiting the Outer Banks
The Outer Banks will forever have a lasting memory in my mind and I plan to return and explore some of the other beach towns in the near future to create more memories.
